TasteTations

TasteTations were Hershey's answer to Werther's Originals — creamy hard candies that arrived in the mid-1990s with a lineup of chocolate-inspired flavors: Chocolate, Chocolate Mint, Chocolate Raspberry, Chocolate Caramel, Caramel, Peppermint, and Butterscotch. Heavily promoted with TV spots and in-store samples, they were the candy that felt sophisticated and indulgent. Yet despite the hype, they couldn't survive the early 2000s and faded from shelves, leaving a devoted nostalgic following.

Hershey launched TasteTations around 1996 as a premium hard-candy line, betting that chocolate-forward flavors could compete with established rivals like Werther's Originals. The initial marketing push was substantial — TV commercials, print ads, generous in-store sampling — and the candies found an audience, particularly among kids and adults who appreciated their creamy texture and candy-counter prestige compared to typical mass-market hard candies.

The line proved unsustainable. TasteTations faded from shelves in the United States by the early 2000s, though they lingered in Canada a bit longer until around 2004. In retrospect, they represent a 1990s gamble that didn't pan out: a premium chocolate-candy hybrid that arrived with fanfare and vanished quietly, leaving only memories and the occasional Reddit post asking 'Does anyone remember these?'
