Mountain Dew Baja Blast debuted in 2004 as a Taco Bell exclusive, a flavor PepsiCo developed specifically for the chain. The tropical-lime flavor was a departure from the Dew's traditional citrus profile, and the neon-teal color made it instantly recognizable. But the real magic was scarcity: you could only get it at Taco Bell, from the fountain. This artificial exclusivity fueled an underground cult following. Fans would travel to Taco Bells specifically to get Baja Blast, and internet forums filled with threads debating the best places to score it.
