Four preschoolers and their sentient red rocket ship blasted off every episode to a soundtrack of actual classical music. You remember the theme — "We're going on a trip in our favorite rocket ship" — and the way each mission smuggled a museum masterpiece and a classical movement into the adventure.
Little Einsteins premiered on Disney Channel's Playhouse Disney block on October 9, 2005, riding the success of an August direct-to-DVD film, Our Huge Adventure, that had already become the year's #1 preschool DVD franchise. Produced by Curious Pictures with The Baby Einstein Company and developed by Douglas Wood, the concept was straightforward: Leo, June, Quincy, and Annie piloted Rocket through adventures that wove real Baroque, Classical, and Romantic compositions — and famous artworks — into each plot. The structure was curriculum-first, art and music appreciation embedded in the storytelling, which made it something parents could feel good about playing on repeat.
The series ran until December 2009, picking up two Daytime Emmy nominations along the way. Its stranger legacy arrived years later: a trap remix of Billy Straus's theme song went viral in early 2015, spawning a wave of Vine memes and proving the rocket-ship song had lodged itself in a generation's head more firmly than any of the classics it taught.
