Timmy Turner's fairy godparents Cosmo and Wanda granted every wish—and every wish went catastrophically wrong. Nickelodeon's absurdist comedy about a miserable kid with unlimited magical wishes became a juggernaut that somehow survived 16 years, backseat-driven by evil babysitter Vicky and Mr. Crocker's obsessive screams.

Created by Butch Hartman, The Fairly OddParents originated as shorts on Oh Yeah! Cartoons in 1998 before graduating to a full Nickelodeon series premiere on March 30, 2001. Ten-year-old Timmy Turner suffered under the care of evil babysitter Vicky and lived with parents who alternated between oblivious and neglectful—his misery earned him two fairy godparents, dim sweet Cosmo and sensible Wanda, bound by Da Rules to grant his every wish.

The genius was in the wishing itself: Timmy would start with a reasonable desire ("I wish I were popular") and the fairies would interpret it literally, creating magical chaos. His arch-nemesis Vicky provided real-world cruelty. His teacher Mr. Crocker was obsessed with catching Cosmo and Wanda, screaming "FAIRY GODPARENTS!" at every suspicious moment. At its peak, The Fairly OddParents was Nickelodeon's second-biggest cartoon behind SpongeBob, a fixture of Nickelodeon's weekend blocks for a generation of kids. The original run lasted until 2017, a testament to how well the formula worked—the same joke (wish causes disaster) remained funny for over a decade.
